Open Circuit Event In Belgium THIS SATURDAY
FatCat’s ongoing Open Circuit event series at kunstencentrum BELGIE in Hasselt, Belgium continues this weekend, with the seventh in our almost-yearly series of events there. Taking place this Saturday 4th December, this year's line-up sees an adventurous mixture of organic and electronic, hard and soft, loud and quiet, maximal and minimal.
Our latest signing, Icelandic composer Johann Johannson will play a collaborative set with cellist Hildur Gudnadottir, a regular member of Mum. Dusseldorf-based pianist / composer Hauschka will make a very rare performance of his Ghost Piano collaboration with film-maker Jeff Desom. Black Dice, who recorded two albums for FatCat in the early '00s, return with their brilliant psychedelic melt-scapes. Finland’s Lau Nau brings her home-baked layerings of wintery post-folk and gorgeous crystalline vocals. Growing offer a kaleidoscope of spiralling, avant-drone-pop, whilst Antenna Farm return to Belgie with a freeform layered mess of fried electronics, laptop processing, impovised guitar flicker and field recording.
Beyond the purely musical, there will once again be a series of installations and film screenings as we attempt to transform the venue into a lively and immersive creative space. Shobo Shobo (who provided artwork for Aoki Takamasa & Tujiko Noriko's album, '28') will be contributing their own incredible live art / installation work, in the form of a collection of masks and a new live-drawing performance project under the name Michelles Fusain. Brighton-based performer / artist Rowena Easton will be lacing things together with volleys of rapid-fire spoken word, and we'll be showing a host of films by FatCat-related artists and directors (including a feature-length Vashti Bunyan documentary, a series of recent film work by Semiconductor, and showreel from directors Jeff Desom (includinga brand new Hauschka video), Overture, and Danny Perez (including Animal Collective's new 'Oddsac' film).
All in all, this year's event should hopefully provide another feast for the eyes, ears, mind and heart. Here’s the full details:
