Johann Johannsson - The Miners Hymns live at The Barbican
Jóhann Jóhannsson is set to perform 'The Miners Hymns' live at The Barbican Hall on the 9th March with film by Bill Morrison.
"The former coal mining communities in northeast England are the subject of this inspired documentary by American artist film-maker Bill Morrison. Their story is told entirely without words, yet the film is far from silent: it features a remarkable original score by the Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson." - The Barbican
‘As eloquent a working-class portrait as any Ken Loach film... With Jóhannsson’s gorgeous score providing mournful counterpoint to the visual world Morrison has both revived and created anew, 'The Miners’ Hymns' leaves the audience with the ineffable sense of being between times, landscapes and emotions. True to the sacramental suggestion of the film’s title, the feeling is a lot like prayer’ - Washington Post
After the show, join Morrison and Jóhannsson for a post performance discussion hosted by Nick Bradshaw, Sight & Sound.
