Today sees the release of 'Another Bed', the second single to be taken from The Twilight Sad's third album 'No One Can Ever Know'.  The release sees a departure from the band's previous sound towards a darker, more industrial synth-led sound; described by The Line of Best Fit as "both facistic and ornate, like the soundtrack to a Fellini interpretation of a Lanarkshire Nuremberg."

Glasgow based PAWS, made up of Philip, Joshua and Matthew,  respectively hail from Tain (Highlands of Scotland), Edinburgh, and Glasgow. The band have a strong DIY ethic, and a lo-fi, punk-rock sound.  They have rapidly created an enthusiastic buzz around their name within the last year, and have been touring extensively since 2010. So far, they have shared the stage with transatlantic bands such as Dum Dum Girls, No Age, Wavves, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti and Black Lips, as well as British peers Male Bonding, and label mates Milk Maid and Mazes. 

PAWS have been listed as by BBC Scotland as ones to watch in 2012 http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/radioscotland/2012/01/35-scottish-artists-to-watch.shtml and have just been nominated for Best Live Act at The Scottish Alternative Music Awards. "The initial inspiration to write the song 'Winter' came on a freezing cold evening during the Chicago winter," says frontman Dave Davison. "The song contrasts memory and the perspective of winter as a season of possibility and creativity with the bleak, stillness of winter nights in the Midwest."

Jóhann Jóhannson recently perfomed  at a live KCRW FM Broadcast Session. He was joined by a string quartet and played 7 tracks.

The film which has received several awards including the Grand Jury Prize Award at the Sundance Film Festival is now out in cinemas across the UK.

This is yet another addition to the artist’s extensive film repertoire which includes contributions to ‘Marie Antoinette and ‘An American Affair’.

Not only that, but they have also found the time to talk to Clash about their musical inspirations, writing the new album and touring extensively. Check out the interview here.

'No One Can Ever Know' - the new album by The Twilight Sad, is out now on all formats in the UK, Europe and US.  It is the band's third album and was produced by Andrew Weatherall, seeing them move towards a more synth-driven sound. 

"We wanted to be a lot more spontaneous, get oustide our comfort zone - not to fall back into repeating what we've done previously", explains guitarist Andy MacFarlane. "So we moved to London for a month to record at The Pool and got Andrew Weatherall involved to bounce ideas off and to generally reassure us of the direction we were already progressing in." Lyrically 'No One Can Ever Know' finds singer James Graham on typically ominous form, delivering lightning bolts of malevolent threat as in single 'Another Bed' (released February 20th)

Sonic and visual experimentalists Breton will release their second single, ‘Interference’ on 19th March 2012. It’s taken from the band’s hugely anticipated debut album ‘Other People’s Problems’ - due for release on 26th March 2012 - and lyrically touches on compulsive, destructive relationships, their internal compromises and justifications.It’s a bold, epic production oozing in attitude thanks to the brass and strings courtesy of German composer and Breton hero Hauschka. He conducted and recorded an orchestra in Berlin, some parts of which were then re-sampled by Breton and worked into the song alongside the classical arrangement. The sounds heard at the end of the track are the string section putting down their bows when the recording session finished. 

‘Plastic Boxes’ is a new and exclusive song about people who go back to their hometown and pretend they’re doing really well to old mates when they’re not - reinventing themselves for a brief period of time before heading back to the humdrum of reality.It collides East Coast hip hop with wonky, tripped out beats to create a piece of music that feels like its falling over itself. The sample at the beginning is of a Scottish bingo caller recorded when Breton were loitering outside a bingo hall in Glasgow while on tour with Tom Vek last year – one of the thousands of sounds the band has captured during the recording of the album. 

Both songs were written and recorded at Breton’s creative HQ The Lab, a disused bank in Kennington.
