Hauschka to play on the 'Kept Impulses' tour with Nancy Elizabeth and James Blackshaw.

The dates and booking details have been confirmed for the *Kept Impulses* tour. "Haushka":http://fat-cat.co.uk/fatcat/artist/hauschka and two other gifted artists, singer/multi-instrumentalist *Nancy Elizabeth* (Leaf Label) from Manchester, and the 12-string guitarist *James Blackshaw* (Young God) from Hastings, Kent are brought together for this special collaborative tour. The tour organisers, *Qu Junktions* state that they have chosen the name for the tour because "all three (musicians) have the endearing talent of being able to harness wild impulses into measured and musical journeys that run deep," and these should be fascinating and musically rich shows to attend.

Each artist will perform their own material each night, with the other two musicians guesting on selected tracks. The ensemble will also perform material devised collaboratively together for the very first time. The acts are distinct but musically complimentary and these collaborations are an exciting prospect, combining Hauschka's percussive piano interventions with James Blackshaw's cascading acoustic guitar and Nancy Elizabeth's pure and emotive vocals.

All three acts are working with *David Coulter* on their collaborative pieces and he is the music supervisor for the Barbican show. David is one of the best musical sidemen going and has played with The Pogues and Test Dept in his time. When artists such as Tom Waits, Damon Albarn, Hal Willner, Talvin Singh, Handsome Family and Marianne Faithful need an inspired musical ear they go to David. He has also released a record on Young God Records.
The wait is over, North American *Frightened Rabbit* fans! Their new album, 'The Winter Of Mixed Drinks', is finally available in the US and Canada, in CD, gatefold-packaged LP, and digital formats.

Next week the band will be appearing multiple times at Austin's *SXSW* festival, and will return to our shores in April for a full US tour starting at *Coachella*.

*Frightened Rabbit at SXSW:*
17 Mar, 12 am - Scottish Arts Council Showcase @ Parish
18 Mar, 9:45 am - KUT radio acoustic set @ Hilton Hotel lobby
20 Mar, 7:15 pm - Domino Publishing party @ French Legation Museum

"Frightened Rabbit's third studio album delivers more impeccably crafted rock-pop while sounding more epic than ever before." *Metromix*

"The huge, cavernous sound amplifies the anthemic power of the band's songs." *KEXP*

"The Scottish band Frightened Rabbit knows what it's like to want to be left alone: Its terrific new album, 'The Winter of Mixed Drinks', spends a lot of time examining the pursuit of solitude in a world fraught with distraction, obligation, unrequited desire and romantic dysfunction." *NPR*

Frightened Rabbit - The Winter Of Mixed Drinks - Out Today in UK/Europe

8/10 *NME*

Release of The Week - *Scotland on Sunday*

"...it (TWOMD) cements Frightened Rabbit at the creative peak of the folk-crossover scene." *8/10 Drowned In Sound*

"...the soungwriting is sharp throughout, and most of their songs - with themes of escape, freedom and reinvention - have huge impassioned choruses that are made to be shouted from the nearest available mountain." *4/5 The Guardian*

"Underneath Scott Hutchison's warm burr lies a clutch of songs that deserve to be held close and tight." *8/10 Artrocker*

1st March 2010 marks the release of yet another critically acclaimed *Frightend Rabbit* album - *The Winter Of Mixed Drinks* in UK/Europe; the album will be released 9 March in the USA and Canada.

Metaphorically, lead single ‘Swim Until You Can’t See Land’ might have taken up where the band left off (‘Floating In The Forth’), but ‘The Winter Of Mixed Drinks’ showcases a more fully realised sound with a broader pallette, with direct and upbeat songs like (new single, 22nd Feb) ‘Nothing Like You’ and ‘Living In Colour’ jostling for position with intense and brittle epics like ‘Skip The Youth’ and ‘Yes I Would’. Speaking to nme.com at the end of last year, lead singer Scott Hutchison explained ‘We've broadened our horizons sonically and it feels like a natural move forward. Most importantly, it’s better than the last one.’ Produced once again by Peter Katis at Tarquin Studios in Connecticut, and engineered by Stuart Hamilton at Castlesound Studios in Scotland, ‘The Winter Of Mixed Drinks’ also boasts stunning string arrangements from labelmate, Teutonic ivory-botherer, Hauschka.

In order to facilitate the new material and flesh out the older tunes live, the band – once upon a time simply Scott alone – have recently expanded to a five piece with the addition of new member Gordon Skene (formerly of Make Model). ‘”We want to do the recordings justice when we play them live,” explains Scott. “Gordon will be playing a bundle of instruments - we just bought a tasty wee mandolin for him to fiddle!”
